The Great Southern Beer Festival – Atlanta was a hit! This year the event was held on Saturday, April 27th at John Howell Park and comprised of two different sessions: 11 AM – 2:30 and 3:30 – 7 PM. The first thing you notice entering this festival is the souvenir sampling cup – a mason jar style glass! Another thing we notice each year is that John Howell Park is a great space for the event. There were plenty of spots to hang out in the shade or in the sun, fun lawn games, and both a live band and Dj’s entertaining the crowd. We also loved the variety of breweries and vendors that joined the event.
Favorite Beers
Aryelle’s Pick | MIA Brewing Co. – Big in Japan: This is a sake beer and was unlike anything we have had before. It may have had a 9.5% ABV, but it definitely didn’t feel like it as it went down easily and had a nice crisp finish.
Kristina’s Pick | Catawba Brewing Co. – Evening Joe: This coffee blonde was delightful and a great way to start the day. We found this at the “breakfast beers” tent.
William’s Pick | Heaven & Ale Brewing Co. – Love Supreme: Brewed with Creme Brulee Coffee and vanilla beans. This beer was coffee forward and super smooth! I could drink this beer all day long.
Favorite Vendors
King of Pops | If you’re at an outside event in Georgia, chances are King of Pops will be there. Their popsicles are great to enjoy on a hot summer day.
Smirnoff & Bulliet Bourbon | These two sponsors of the event served up cocktails. Smirnoff’s Orange Crush and Bulleit Bourbons’ Southern Peach Tea recipes.
Favorite Moments
One of our favorite moments was halfway into the event, we ran into Axel Martinez from Modern Day Foodies. We ended up spending most of the event together talking about the beer and upcoming events. It is always great when great beer brings great people together!
Another favorite moment was actually at the very beginning of the day. One of the first tents you saw walking into the festival was a new brewery added to the event. It was Trimtab Brewing out of Birmingham, Alabama. Their beers are AMAZING, but the highlight was their bubble machine. It was such a fun thing to have at the event and a great surprise! It also helped make some really cool images like the one below!
