SOHO Gastropub Hosts LA Brewery King Harbor Brewing

If you haven’t had the chance to check out SOHO Gastropub in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego (off Convoy) yet, we’ve got the perfect excuse for you to get down there! Each month they host a month long tap takeover featuring different craft breweries. At the start of their month long tap takeover, usually the Brewer along with other folks that work at the brewery and the distributor will come hang out to answer any questions you might have and throw back a couple of their beers with you, this month is King Harbor Brewery.

We had the opportunity to go to their latest kickoff event featuring a craft brewery out of Los Angeles County called King Harbor Brewing (check out their website for more info). At the event we learned more about their head brewer and part owner, Phil McDaniel, who has spent some time during his career brewing at Bootleggers, Stone Brewing, & The Bruery. We also learned a lot about some future brews and plans for the brewery as well. Overall, it was an amazing night filled with great conversation, great beer, and great food! As this was King Harbor Brewing’s first official tap takeover event in San Diego, CA and since it did not disappoint, we are looking forward to many more!

Here are the beers that they brought to share with San Diego and ones that we had the distinct honor of trying:

Sink with California | 5.5% alc/vol |

This West Coast style pale ale has been massively dry-hopped with Idaho 7, Citra, and Cascade. An avalanche of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit hop character brightened by a smooth specialty malt bill of oats and honey malt. 100% awesomeness.

Coconut IPA | 6.7% alc/vol |

A tropical hop profile IPA with toasted coconut. It’s a tropical paradise in your mouth. We couldn’t get enough of this beer! Hands down this is one of the best coconut style beers we’ve ever had! Fun fact: the locals in OC liked the coconut version better than the original IPA so they decided to keep this one year around!

Tiki Hut IPA | 7.5% alc/vol |

Tropical awesomeness powered by monster flavor/aroma additions of Citra and Mosaic. Epic hop profile with a touch more specialty malt than a typical West Coast IPA. That extra support allows the Citra & Mosaic profiles to shine extra bright…like diamonds made of lupulin and unicorn kisses.

Nitro Swirly | 4.7% alc/vol |

Soft serve swirl ice cream cone in beer form. Chocolate, vanilla, lactose w/ a hint of coffee. This beer on Nitro was like drinking a milkshake! So smooth and delicious you will be left wanting more!

Blackberry Darkest Before Dawn

Super rare & super delicious, this was their very limited offering that they brought down just for this tap takeover!
