Ingredients
  • 1tbsp vegetable oilsuch as canola or olive oil
  • 4 1 inch thick pork chops
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 tart apples, slicedsuch as Fuji or Granny Smith
  • 2tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1tbsp butter
  • 2tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4tbsp your favorite brown aleWe used Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale because it’s nutty, spicy and sweet
  • 1/4cup hazelnuts or pecans(optional)
Instructions
  1. Add oil to skillet or dutch oven over medium-high heat. Lightly season pork chops with salt and pepper and brown on both sides. Remove from pan.
  2. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and a pinch of salt and pepper. Add butter to the skillet, stir in brown sugar mixture and apples. Sprinkle flour and incorporate into pan drippings. Cook, stirring occasionally. Deglaze the pan with beer.
  3. Add the pork chops back to the skillet. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 1 hour. The beer and apples will have created a delicious sauce and the meat will be very tender.
  4. Optional: Add hazelnuts or pecans to small pan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until they begin to toast. Keep a close eye, they will burn! Remove from heat and allow to cool. Coarsely chop and sprinkle over pork chops and apples to serve.
