Pints and Pups: Goat Patch Brewing Company
If you have a dog you know the feeling of happiness you get when you sit on a patio with a pint and your best pal. Here at Hoplight, most of us are dog parents, and we get the feeling! In this multi-part series, I will be highlighting some of the best dog-friendly places I have found to grab a pint with Finn, my Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog. While this series will start with Colorado Springs, we will branch out to other areas in Colorado as well. Grab your drinking buddy and head down to the second place on our journey, Goat Patch Brewing Company.
Goat Patch Brewing Company has been open since 2017 and they operate off three core values: to create balanced brews, community engagement, and adventure. At the Great American Beer Festival this year they took home Bronze in the Scottish-Style Ale category for their It Takes a Tribe Red Ale!
The Vibe
Nestled in the Lincoln Center, a former elementary school that now boasts over 14 businesses, Goat Patch is the perfect place to grab a cold pint. They offer a large taproom with banquettes, low and high-top tables as well as a sprawling bar. With all of that, the patio is where it’s at! The patio has multiple tables and an indoor/outdoor bar area to provide you and your furry friend plenty of space to imbibe.
Goat Patch plays a huge part in the community through their Bleating Heart nights. There is also an “It Takes a Tribe Initiative” which provides a wooden token (the equivalent of 25 cents) to each guest when they buy It Takes a Tribe. These tokens are then put into one of two boxes, provided by two local non-profits, which are picked each year. At the end of the year, a check is cut for the monetary equivalent. Pretty cool, right? The Beer
Hophead? Grab a pint of the Blood Orange IPA, brewed with Mosaic, Azacca, and Warrior hops. Looking for a Milk Stout? The Mocha Latte Stout is a delicious collaboration between Goat Patch and their neighbor, Building Three Coffee. More of a sour fan? The Purploid Sour Punch, a kettle soured blueberry ale brewed with their signature Punch blend of Hefe/Saison yeast, is a must try. Don’t forget about It Takes a Tribe, the first recipe their Head Brewer, Darren, created on the pilot system before opening their doors. Did we mention that tasty brew won bronze at GABF?
The Food
Goat Patch does not have a kitchen, but there are daily food trucks as well as restaurants located in the Lincoln Center. Finn and I shared some lobster mac & cheese on our recent visit courtesy of Chef Bob’s Lobstah Trap and it was absolutely divine.
Goat Patch Brewing Company is a must visit in Colorado Springs. The community mentality and philosophy that “it takes a tribe” echoes through not only their business plan but through their entire team – from the beertenders to the owners.
