Who doesn’t love supporting a good cause? More and more breweries are starting to host events that pair their beers with your favorite Girl Scout Cookies and give a portion of the sales to Girl Scouts of America.
We thought it would be fun to create a flight of our own from home. First, we looked at the beers we had in our fridge and decided what cookies might pair best. Next, we went to our local market in hunt of some Girl Scouts to support. We then purchased four of our favorite boxes of Girl Scout cookies. Finally, we headed home to taste these amazing combinations and watch the Oscars!
Here are the pairings we came up with:
Rogue Brewing Company Hazelnut Brown Nectar + Samoas
A nutty twist to a traditional European Brown Ale. This beer is dark brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish. This paired perfectly with the crisp cookies that are coated in caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut, and complete with dark chocolate drizzle.
Ballast Point Nitro Red Velvet + Trefoils
Like the cake that inspired it, the deep red color comes from beets, which add a rich, earthy character that complements the chocolate flavor and aroma. The foamy head of the nitro pour is the “icing”, adding a creamy smoothness to the mouthfeel. This liquid dessert still finishes like a beer – not sweet, but just as satisfying. This paired perfectly with the delicate-tasting shortbread that is delightfully simple and very satisfying.
Pure Project Delphyne + Savannah Smiles
A bright, crisp and refreshingly tart sunshine beer featuring a light, hazy color with lactic and sourdough notes on the nose. This classic Berliner Weisse features Raw & Organic Dragon Fruit (Pitaya) from San Diego’s own Pitaya Plus, whose non-GMO farms are located in Nicaragua. This paired perfectly with the crisp, zesty lemon wedge cookies that are dusted with powdered sugar.
Note: This was by far our favorite pairing! We could not get enough!
Campanology Brewing Adventurous Stranger Coffee Kolsch + Thin Mints
This is a light beer with a robust coffee flavor. This beer paired well with the crisp wafers with a chocolaty coating that is made with the natural oil of peppermint. The coffee & mint play well together and since this is a light beer, the Thin Mints were the real star.
Note: We found this beer at our local Trader Joe’s. Any Coffee IPA would pair well with the Thin Mints.
