New English Brewing & Sweet Petite Confections Pairing was EPIC!
We love great craft beer and chocolate, so of course we attended the New English Brewing Company beer and Sweet Petite Confections chocolate pairing event on October 1st, 2016. One of the great things about the New English Brewing tasting room is they have an amazing private room to hold events thus making their events even more elevated. This event was more than just another pairing event, they took the time to make it extremely educational. During each pairing, Michelle from Sweet Petite Confections shared details about the chocolate that was being enjoyed and why it was paired with that specific beer. Matt, the head brewer from New English Brewing Company shared details about the beer and how it was produced.
Everyone in attendance was also taught about the tasting techniques for a chocolate and beer pairing:
- First take a sip of beer and swish it through your mouth to cleanse it while also allowing you to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the beer.
- Take a bite of chocolate and crush it with your teeth. Push it towards the roof of your mouth and let the warmth of your body temperature melt the chocolate on your tongue. Take note of the varying characteristics of the chocolate.
- While the chocolate is still in your mouth, take another sip of beer and allow yourself to experience the mix of the varying characteristics of each blend with each other. Note compliments and contrasts of each and how they play off the other.

PAIRING ONE | Back in Blonde Ale / Meyer Lemon bonbon with a spearmint infusion enrobed in white chocolate. This was definitely an amazing pairing! We loved how the lemon helped bring out the citrus components of the beer!
PAIRING TWO | Pure & Simple IPA / Passion fruit bonbon enrobed in white chocolate. The white chocolate paired nicely with the huge hop aroma of the beer.
PAIRING THREE | Barley Wine / Pumpkin Caramel bonbon enrobed in 33% milk chocolate. This was one of our favorite pairings of the evening! The toffee and caramel notes of the beer really elevated the chocolate to a whole new level. This was one that we could not get enough of!
PAIRING FOUR | Adams Avenue Porter / Toasted Coconut bonbon with toasted sweetened coconut enrobed in 64% dark chocolate. We loved this pairing. If you are fan of coffee then this would be your dream pairing. Pairing the two together tasted like a coconut flavored cup of coffee and it was simply amazing!
PAIRING FIVE | Barrel-Aged Brown Ale / Tuscan Sun bark- 64% dark chocolate, toasted almonds, sun dried tomatoes, candied basil, Hawaiian sea salt. This pairing was definitely different than the rest. The chocolate and beer paired together brought out some interesting flavors to your palate.
Tickets for this amazing pairing were only $25! We definitely recommend that the next time they are hosting an event like this that you get your hands on some tickets and go!
