New Belgium Tour De Fat San Diego 2016
New Belgium’s Tour De Fat popped up in San Diego, CA over the weekend and it was an absolute blast! The traveling celebration definitely creates a spectacular sensory experience complete with great beer, bikes, music, comedy, sustainability, and philanthropy.
This year marked the 17th season for Tour de Fat, which has raised more than $4 million for local non-profits since it began and close to $650,000 last year alone. The day long festivities were free to attend and all proceeds from beer, merchandise sales and parade donations went to local non-profits.
The day started out with a 5 mile bike parade around South Park here in San Diego. It was amazing to see the wide variety of bicycles and people dressed in fun costumes made just for the parade. Once we got back from the ride, we were able to participate in a number of activities from free shows at Le Tigre, to fun contests such as The Bike is Right, enjoy a main stage with musical acts, and of course drinking amazing beer. There was also a VIP section that was reserved for people who had won contests leading up to the event that featured: comfy blow up couches, unlimited beer & unlimited food from an amazing local food vendor called Harvest Kitchen. Our favorite beers of the day were New Belgium’s Heavy Melon, Tart Lychee, & Firestone Walker‘s take on Fat Tire which they named Fat Hoppy Ale.

We have been to a lot of beer festivals and we have to say that this was one of our favorites so far. We cannot wait until next year as we will definitely be going again!
