Memorial Weekend Events – San Diego
The highly anticipated Memorial Weekend is finally here! Though the long weekend and festive events are more than enough to celebrate, let us for a brief moment remember the significance of this holiday. Memorial Day is a celebration and commemoration of those that have lost their lives while serving our country. Before the celebrations, libations and barbecuing commence, be sure to take time to reflect and pay homage to the many Americans that have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. That being said, please be sure to have fun and be safe out there! We decided to compile a list of events you can get yourself into this weekend and enjoy some great beer, enjoy!
Event Schedule – Memorial Weekend 2017
Saturday 5/27
BNS Cornhole Tournament
BNS Brewing and Distilling Co. is doing Memorial Weekend the right way. How so? By hosting a Cornhole Tournament of course! You can either bring a friend to be your teammate or simply find one there. Who knows…you may even team up with a pro! If you’re embarrassed of your non-existent cornhole skills, do not fret. The two-division doubles tournament is open to all skill levels.
Lady Star Blues Band
Aztec Brewing Company is going to be filled with the sweet sounds of blues. You can sip on Simrillo IPA, Cacao Chocolate Porter, El Dorado or any other of their great beers as you listen to live music inside their amazing tasting room. If you can’t sit still, you can dance your heart out or simply tap your foot along to the Lady Star Star Blues Band.
Memorial Day Brew n’ Que
Memorial Weekend isn’t quite the same without some barbecue in your life. South Park Abbey will be handling the food with Societe Brewing Company taking care of the brew. If you happen to be on a budget this weekend, South Park Abbey is the place to be! You can’t beat $4 beers all day long!
Santee Street Fair & Craft Beer Festival
The Santee Street Fair has you covered if you’re searching for a Memorial Weekend activity that is fun for the whole family. This is not a 21+ craft beer fair, but rather a street fair with a beer garden on the side. Burning Beard Brewing Co., Groundswell Brewing Company, and Pacific Islander Beer Company are among the 10 breweries that will be in attendance. There will be activities suitable for all ages with more than 300 various food and vendor booths along with great local entertainment.
Sunday 5/28
Memorial Day Family Bowling
Tavern+Bowl East Village is offering a family bowling package on both Sunday and Monday. For only $49, the family package includes: One hour of bowling, 6 shoe rentals, a flatbread pizza and 2 soda pitchers. Be sure to reserve the soda pitchers for the kiddos and grab yourself one or two of the many craft beers they have on tap.
Beaver Brunch
Belching Beaver Brewery is hosting their second Beaver Beer Brunch at their North Park location. After a very successful first brunch, Belching Beaver decided to give it another go! Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a taster beer to get things started. Next, you will receive 3 beers along with brunch pairings from EYHO food truck. Belching Beaver describes their brunch as a “casual, fun, yet informed pairing – this ain’t no stuffy beer brunch!”
Block Party
If you miss Quartyards Friday night Friyay event, don’t worry as you still have another chance to celebrate! Their Block Party will have local vendors, live music and food trucks that are going to set up shop all day long. The family is welcome as they are kid friendly. You can also bring dogs too since they have a dog park!
Truffles, Cheese and Beer Pairing
Thorn Street Brewery is hosting a more laid back, but delicious activity for your weekend. For only $15, you will be provided with 2 handcrafted chocolate truffles, 2 types of artisan cheese and 2 half pints to be pared with the food. Take it easy on Sunday with this delicious beer and food pairing. It’s the perfect opportunity to kick back, relax and enjoy good beer and food.

May is CalFresh awareness month and Benchmark Brewing Company is partnering with San Diego Hunger Coalition to help support the fight against hunger. Padre Game
Come out and support your San Diego Padres as they take on the Chicago Cubs. Petco Park offers great beers from many local San Diego breweries including: Pizza Port Brewing Co., Ballast Point, Coronado Brewing Company, Mike Hess Brewing and more. If you are going to bring the whole family, Park at the Park tickets are ideal. Park at the Park will allow you to savor your cold beer on the green lawn while your kids run around the park. This sounds like a win-win to us. Who knows… maybe this will become a Memorial Day tradition? Plus, what is more American than baseball, beer and hot dogs?
Memorial Day Bash
If you prefer to spend the day on the bay, Carnitas Snack Shack is where you want to be! Their Embarcadero location will be bumping music from 12 pm – 4 pm. They are also planning to role out their “Pig Pen” bar for quicker access to cold beers. You can soak in the sun, sip on your beer and make a toast to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Tapping 120 minute IPA
Barrel Republic will be tapping 120 minute IPA by Dogfish Head Brewery. This is a very rare opportunity so be sure to take full advantage of it! On top of the exclusive tapping, Barrel Republic is also offering complimentary donuts, champagne and ½ off local drafts!
Kill the Keg
Hillcrest Brewing Company is joining in on the Memorial Weekend spirit as well. On Memorial Day, they are offering 50¢ wings and hot dogs all day long. They are also going to feature a surprise beer for this event. Be sure to grab a beer and get to eating!
