Melvin Brewing takes home GOLD for Melvin Fresh Hop IPA at Great American Beer Festival
Melvin Brewing of Jackson, Wyoming, returned home from last weekend’s Great American Beer Festival with another medal for their collection. After winning the craft brewing industry’s top honor last year — 2015’s Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year, the team brought home a gold for their Melvin Fresh Hop IPA.
In its 35th year, the 2016 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition awarded 286 medals to some of the best commercial breweries in the United States. GABF is the largest commercial beer competition in the world and a symbol of brewing excellence. Wyoming was one of top three states by ratio of medals to entries by state:
Wyoming (.111) with 45 entries and 5 medals, followed by Hawaii and Virginia. Hawaii (.107) with 28 entries and 3 medals and Virginia (.07) with 200 entries and 14 medals
“As we continue to grow, being recognized for one of our flagship beers is the icing on the cake. In the last eight months, we have opened up three markets with Denver being one of our strongest,” said Jeremy Tofte, co-founder of Melvin Brewing.
In 2015, Melvin took home the Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the year award. In 2014, Melvin Brewing won two medals at the World Beer Cup: A Gold in the Imperial India Pale Ale category for its 2×4 and a Bronze in the Fruit Beer category for its ChChChCh-Cherry Bomb. Both beers won also medals (Cherry Bomb – Silver, 2×4 – Gold) at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival. 2×4 is the only IPA to win Alpha King, GABF Gold and WBC Gold.
Melvin Brewery is located in the heart of downtown Jackson Hole at Thai Me Up Restaurant, which was started in 2000 by Melvin founder Jeremy Tofte. The newest addition is their production facility, home to its custom built Newlands 30bbl, 4 vessel system located in Alpine, Wyoming (about 45 minutes from Jackson, WY).
