Karl Strauss is Calling All Homebrewers!

Calling all homebrewers! If you’re chomping at the bit to work with a San Diego favorite AND travel to Denver for the Great American Beer Festival, you’ll have to jump on this opportunity. Karl Strauss Brewing Company is once again hosting their Pro-Am Competition!
Entries will be accepted until June 10th, 2017 and the first 60 entries will be entered into the competition.
The judging will take place the week of June 12th by a panel of Karl Strauss brewers, Certified Cicerones, and beer media guests. Contestants are encouraged to use the most current Beer Style Guidelines from the Brewers Association when brewing. This will be the guidelines judges will use to evaluate each beer. Since it’s not a BJCP sanctioned contest, score sheets will not be returned.
Karl Strauss will then choose a Grand Prize (First Prize) winner to brew the Pro-Am beer. Second and third place winners will score some swag and other fun prizes. The Grand Prize winner will be contacted no later than June 16th, following the judging. If you are selected as the Grand Prize winner, you’ll have to commit to a pre-brew meeting and brew day. The actual brewing session will take place during the month of July, specifics are still to be determined.
THE RULES
- All entrants must be 21 years of age or older and a Southern California resident.
- To be eligible to win the grand prize and brew with Karl Strauss, you must be an AHA member (must show AHA card when you drop off your samples).
- No Karl Strauss staff member or employee of any other brewery may win the grand prize.
- All entries must be home made for private non-commercial use.
- All entries must be beers that Karl Strauss can reproduce on a commercial scale. Special ingredients, prolonged aging, unique fermentation practices, etc. might inhibit chances of winning due to logistical/time constraints. - Entries are due to the Karl Strauss main brewery Tasting Room (5985 Santa Fe Street, San Diego, CA 92109) no later than 8pm on June 10th, 2017. Tasting Room Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 2pm-8pm.
- They require 4 bottles per entry (regardless of size but prefer 12oz bottles), limit of 2 entries per person. No fee required.

ENTRIES
- Each homebrewer may enter up to 2 different beers styles into the competition
DUE TO COMPETITION SIZE, ONLY THE FIRST 60 SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. - Entry forms and beer bottles due IN PERSON to their Tasting Room in Pacific Beach, located at 5985 Santa Fe Street, San Diego, CA 92109. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT ANY OF THEIR BREWPUBS. You must drop off to the tasting room. Their hours are WED-SAT 2PM-8PM. Entry forms are available here.
- Four bottles of each entry must be submitted for judging (regardless of size).
- Each bottle must be properly labeled using the sample labels provided. Please note any special pouring instructions on each label. They suggest clear packing tape to adhere labels to bottles.
- Bottles must be free of any other labels, brewery information, or logos
- Entries must be boxed or in a 6-pack carrier. Clearly label the box with your name, phone number, and the categories you have entered.
This is a great opportunity for homebrewers – regardless of whether you’re a seasoned homebrewer, or one that’s just getting started!
