Cross Country Road Trip for Beer Lovers – Part Two!

William and I decided to make the move from San Diego, CA to Atlanta, GA. Naturally, as we drove across the country we checked out the local beer spots along the way. Oklahoma City, OK

Prairie Artisan Ales

Address: 3 NE 8th Street. Oklahoma City, OK 73104

Beers Worth Trying: BOMB Imperial Stout aged on Coffee, Vanilla, Chocolate, and Chilies. This is the beer that they became famous for! BLUEBERRY BOYFRIEND Sour Ale With Blueberries and Lemon Zest. This sour ale is extremely tasty and perfectly balanced.

Why We Loved It:  We went to their newer location and it was cool to see how they were building out the rest of the building they are in. It was also interesting to hear about how the laws had recently changed in Oklahoma which allowed them to serve their own beer where they brewed it without going through a distributor! Anthem Brewing

Beers Worth Trying: OK Pils is easy drinking and delicious! We also enjoyed their coffee brown which was a specialty beer and probably one of the best coffee browns we have ever had! We still have dreams about it.

Why We Loved It: They have a solid lineup of beers and their tasting room had a very community vibe to it. You could tell they had their regulars and everyone was so friendly. You can learn more about them HERE.

Stonecloud Brewing

Beers Worth Trying: Neon Sunshine Belgian Witbier was refreshing but packed a small bite to it! We loved it so much that we had to grab a six-pack to take home with us. You really can’t go wrong with any of their beers, we liked everything we tried during our stop there.

Why We Loved It: This brewery solidified our surprise discovery that Oklahoma is putting out some solid beers! We walked away from this brewery very impressed with what they were putting out and we were not surprised to see them so busy! You can learn more about them HERE.


Memphis, TN

Ghost River Brewing Co.

Beers Worth Trying: P.S. I LOVE YOU. This American Strong Brown Ale was aged with Palo Santo wood. The aroma and taste were reminiscent of coconut even though no coconut was used! It was mind-blowing. Their core lineup of beers is also extremely solid.

Why We Loved It: We loved the modern yet rustic design of this tasting room. They also have a really cool slogan that we can get behind: Made to Wander.

High Cotton Brewing Co.

Beers Worth Trying: Dunkelweizen & Chocolate Cherry Brown Ale. These two beers were some of the more interesting ones that we had on our trip. They were really flavorful and surprisingly drinkable despite being darker beers.

Why We Loved It: They have multiple places for people to enjoy their beers, including some great community spaces. This is a place you can go with a group of friends and family to enjoy some good times and good beers! You can learn more about them HERE.

Wiseacre Brewing Company

Beers Worth Trying: Gotta GetUp to GetDown Coffee Milk Stout & Starless Schwarzbier. While these are darker styled beers, they are still super refreshing! If you are planning on starting your brewery hoping early, this would be a great place to start!

Why We Loved It: They are making some extremely solid beers across the board. We sampled everything on their menu, and can honestly say that all of their beers were delicious. On top of that, they have some of the cooler branding we have seen. Their artwork on their cans and posters hung throughout the brewery make this one cool space to hang out. You can learn more about them HERE.


Nashville, TN

Beers Worth Trying: Anything on the menu! They have some great IPA’s that will definitely not disappoint!

Why We Loved It: The brewery had a really cool vibe and the beers left us reminiscing about one of our favorite San Diego breweries Modern Times! They even ended up doing a collaboration with them recently! Small world! You can learn more about them HERE.

Tennessee Brew Works

Beers Worth Trying: Southern Wit Belgian-Style White Ale. This citrusy unfiltered beer hits high notes of tangerine, pear, & honey. Yes PLEASE!

Why We Loved It: They are located pretty close to some other local breweries and popular bars in Nashville. The way they have their tasting room set up, you actually can sip on your beers inside the brewhouse while you watch their brewers do their thing! You can learn more about them HERE.

New Heights Brewing Co

Beers Worth Trying: COFFEE & CREAM Coffee & Vanilla Cream Ale & RASPBERRY S’WHEAT TEA Wheat Beer with Tea and Raspberry. Both beers are easy drinking and not overly sweet. You can literally drink them at any time of day.

Why We Loved It: It reminded us of home, and for good reason! This place was originally dreamed up in San Diego, CA before their owners moved to Nashville to start it. Their logo pays homage to San Diego with the famous North Park water tower, then has the Nashville skyline inside of it. You can learn more about them HERE.


Atlanta, GA

SweetWater Brewing

Beers Worth Trying: “Blue” Blueberry Wheat Ale, “Going Coastal” IPA with Pineapple, & “Hop Hash” Easy IPA. These beers were extremely refreshing and had the right amount of bitter without being overly sweet.

Why We Loved It: The history. This brewery helped pave the way for the craft beer scene in Atlanta. It was really cool to get to see their brewery, and experience their beers where they were brewed! New Realm Brewing

Beers Worth Trying: HOPLANDIA IPA is dense with sought-after hops and lush with a heavenly hit of citrus.

Why We Loved It: Anyone wonder where the infamous Brewmaster of Stone Mitch Steele went? Look no further than New Realm Brewing! This is the project that took him from Stone in Escondido, CA and landed him in Atlanta, GA. This place just opened and has some epic views of downtown Atlanta! The beers are reminiscent of West Coast Style IPAs, and that made us feel right back at home. They even recently won the bid to take over the old Green Flash location in Virginia. Monday Night Brewing Co

Beers Worth Trying: “Dr. Robot” Blackberry Lemon Sour from their core lineup.  “Archipelago” Unfiltered IPA, & “Cinnamon Cocoa Draft Kilt” Scotch Ale from their specialty beers. The rest of their core lineup of beers are great too, but these special releases had our taste buds doing a happy dance.

Why We Loved It: Their tasting room has a really unique inside that matches their theme, and they have a great outdoor space for nicer days! The people who work there are really passionate about beer and extremely friendly. This has quickly become one of our favorite spots to visit in Atlanta! You can learn more about them HERE.
