Over the years Cinco de Mayo has been touted as the holiday American’s ignorantly use as an excuse to drink. While somewhat true, most Americans are aware of Cinco de Mayo’s true history. In case you aren’t one of them, it is the day Mexico defeated France at the Battle of Puebla not Mexican Independence Day. While San Diegan’s do not need an excuse to drink craft beer, Cinco de Mayo is a celebration and we are all about celebrating. If the thought of endless tequila shots makes you gag, you are not alone. This year skip the tequila and drink whatever your heart desires, which if you are fan of our website is craft beer. In celebration of one of our favorite holidays, we’ve compiled a list of a few events going on around San Diego, CA to help you celebrate!
San Diego Beerfest
This is a celebration for all beer lovers and party goers alike! Rock Star Beer Festivals will be hosting San Diego Beerfest at the Hardrock Hotel in the heart of Gaslamp. What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with unlimited samples of 50+ beers? On top of unlimited samples, tacos will be available for purchase. The party will be going until 10pm with the help of DJ’s and live bands. A complimentary after party is included with your ticket purchase. Tickets are $35 and in limited supply. Be sure to purchase your ticket soon, as the last few years have sold out.

Monkey Paw Pub & Brewery
One of San Diego’s favorite craft beer hubs is hosting a Cinco de Drinko celebration. Monkey Paw will be celebrating from 12pm- 11:45pm, basically all day long. Enjoy one of 26+ beers on tap or take advantage of tequila specials. Two drinks in particular will be highlighted: Wendlandt’s Vera Niega Wheat Ale for $5.00/pint and Avery El Gose German Style Gose with Lime and Sea Salt for $4.00 /10 oz pour. Baja hot dogs and cheesesteaks will sop up all the beer (and possibly tequila) you’ll be drinking.
Coronado Brewing Company
One of our favorite dog friendly breweries is inviting you to enjoy specialty beer cocktails, tacos and piñatas! On top of all that goodness, they will be serving their Bienvenidos Mexican Lager all day long. This celebration is a simple, relaxed event we can get behind.
Rock Bottom Brewery
If Cinco de Mayo to you simply means great beer and delicious Mexican food then Rock Bottom Brewery is the place to be. Their Brewmaster’s Dinner includes a 5 course meal along with craft beer pairings. Tickets will need to purchased in advance so do not dawdle.

Alesmith Brewing Company
Two of our favorite glutenous pleasures include beer and desserts, Alesmith is supplying both for Cinco de Mayo. For only $18 you can enjoy a beer flight paired with classic and innovative Mexican desserts from 5pm-8pm. If you prefer not to indulge your sweet tooth, no worries. Alesmith will be celebrating all day long with specialty beers and a Michelada bar! Live music and food trucks will keep the party going all night long. Stop by any time from 11am-10pm.
Culture Brewing Co.
If you would like to keep your Cinco de Mayo low key, Culture Brewing Co is the spot for you. The gallery opening will feature local artist, Todd Hammerslag. Culture Brewing Co has 20+ beers on any given day. Avoid the tequila madness and enjoy a beer by the beach. There will also be food available for purchase.
