Breweries from GABF we need in California!
Living in San Diego, CA we are no strangers to great beer. One of our strategies during our coverage of the Great American Beer Festival was to avoid our local breweries or craft beer that we can get back home in order to discover beers that are not available in San Diego, CA. We’ve put together a list of the ones we can’t stop thinking or talking about and has left us counting down the days until we can get our hands on them again, which will probably be at GABF 2017.
Madtree Brewing | Cincinnati, OH
We can’t take full credit for discovering this amazing brewery on our own. We ran into some friends we know whom work at Modern Times and asked us if we had been to the Madtree booth yet. Naturally after having that conversation, it was our next stop. Every single beer that we tried from them was amazing!
Beers We Need in California:
Levanto, Gin-Barrel Aged Joon, & PSA. Levanto is aged 2 years in white wine barrels with chamomile, hibiscus, raspberries, brett, & two strains of lacto. Need we say more? Gin-Barrel Aged Joon is a gin & tonic in beer form. It was hands down the best gin-barrel aged beer we have ever had. PSA is easy to drink & well balanced making it a beer you can literally take with you anywhere life takes you.

Great Lakes Brewing Company | Cleveland, OH
We went looking for this brewery at GABF because some friends shared a bottle of the Christmas Ale with us that they had brought back from Ohio. Lets just say the rest of their beers were just as amazing and we couldn’t get enough of them!
Beers We Need in California:
Christmas Ale & Edmund Fitzgerald Porter – what could be better than having a beer that reminds you of Christmas in a place where you have no seasons? Fresh honey, cinnamon, and ginger flavors really shine in the Christmas Ale leaving us craving more. One of the best porters we had at GABF this year was the Edmund Fizgerald Porter. Rich roasted barley and bittersweet chocolate-coffee notes makes it the perfect beer for Fall!

903 Brewers | Sherman, Texas
Intrigued by the cool setup they had, we picked 903 Brewers booth. Little did we know that what we were grabbing was liquid gold.
Beer We Need in California:
The Chosen One Coconut Ale – this beer is hands down the BEST coconut beer we have had to date. We can picture ourselves sitting at the beach with one of these in hand and be in pure bliss.

RJ Rockers Brewing | Spartanburg, SC
We came looking for this brewery yet again. We have not been able to stop thinking about their beer since we had it over a year ago at GABF 2015.
Beer We Need in California:
Son of a Peach – for the second year in a row this was one of the best beers we had at GABF and one of the best peach beers we’ve ever had! There is just something about those southern peaches that help elevate the flavors of this beer into one that is truly AMAZING! We are California dreaming that one day we might be able to have a can of this awesome beer while we soak up the sun.

Pagosa Brewing & Grill | Pagosa Springs, CO
We wanted to see if their beer was just as good as it was the first time we had it at GABF 2015, so we went looking for them. Just as we remembered, it did not disappoint.
Beer We Need in California:
Chili Verde Cerveza – for the second year in a row this was one of our favorite chile beers at GABF. It literally tastes like a liquid form of Chile Verde and we can’t stop thinking of all the possibilities to utilize this beer in some awesome recipes.

Odell Brewing | Fort Collins, CO
Last year during our GABF trip, we were lucky to have had the opportunity to tour Odell Brewing. The quality of all their beers blew us away! It was bittersweet because now we know what we are missing. They shared with us that it was unlikely they would ever distribute to California.
Beers We Need in California:
Drumroll IPA & Pina Agria Sour. Drumroll IPA looks & tastes like pineapple, orange, mango, and grapefruit. Pina Agria has a sweet malt and pineapple backdrop bursting with an exotic tart finish. This beer left us feeling like we were on a tropical island drinking a Pina Colada. Even while you are surrounded by thousands of people at the biggest beer festival in the nation, drinking these beers will still leave you feeling like you are in paradise.
