Beer Essentials for Camping
The nights are getting warmer and we are all attempting to scratch an adventurous itch. Summer camping is right around the corner! Whether you are traveling near or far, you will need a few beer camping essentials. We all know that the number one rule while dealing with the great outdoors is “Be Prepared”. So, we are here to help prepare.
Before you head out into the great unknown, you should make sure you are equipped with all of your beer camping essentials. Here’s what you’ll need:
Beer
What kind of beer do you take while camping? There is no right or wrong beer to take camping but there are a few that compliment the great outdoors exceptionally well.
Boont Amber Ale, Anderson Valley Brewing Co.: Any of Anderson’s beers makes you feel a bit outdoorsy simply because of their logo featuring beer lovers favorite animal. The mythical creature is a cross between a Bear + Deer = Beer. The Amber is specially equipped to compliment your lunchtime meal. If you’re not quite ready for s’mores but want to sip on something sweet, Boont Amber Ale is there to save the day.
Lemon & Grassy IPA, The Hop Concept: This little number is part of The Hop Concept’s Hop Freshener series. This beer is essentially summer camping in a bottle. Hoppy, citrusy and light. It is simply a fun, refreshing beer to have on hand. This 240z is a perfect bomber to share with a friend..or not.
Heal The Bay IPA, Golden Road Brewing: Not all camping is among the trees. If you find yourself pitching a tent right on the beach make sure to bring this beer in tow. Tropical hops in this beer will complement the salt air and warm sand. You’ll also feel great about drinking this beachside because 10% of Golden Road’s sales are donated to Heal The Bay.
Pale Ale, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.: Simply a classic. If the beers above are not at your disposal, you can always find Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale. The piney flavor of this beer celebrates the clean, refreshing and natural flavors of beer and nature.
Koozies
Koozies may not serve many purposes when you are in the comfort of your own home but they are ideal for camping. If you are camping during the summer chances are it’s hot! A hot day calls for a cold beer. Koozies will keep your beer cold a lot longer. Once night falls you will still find your koozies useful, keeping your hands warm is important. Koozies serve two useful purposes, keeping your beer cold and your hands warm.
Bottle Opener
This one may seem like a no brainer but unless you have a bottle opener on your key chain this is an easy item to forget. A handy bottle opener that we have come across is the Bropener. You can stick this bottle opener to any flat surface and remove it whenever you are done. Some people have even placed the bropener on their car! If you want to pay it forward to fellow beer lovers you can leave your mark by leaving our bropener at your campsite for all to enjoy.
Cooler
Keeping your beers cold is important. When you are in the middle of nowhere you might not have the opportunity to purchase more ice. Having a separate cooler for your beer and food is critical. Chances are you will be reaching into the cooler more often for beer than food. Keeping your beer and food separate helps keep both items cooler for a longer.
Cans
Bottles are okay when you are sticking by the campsite but if you’re planning on going fishing or hiking, canned beer is the way to go. Nothing will break and once you are done it can be crushed and condensed. Here are a few of our favorite canned beers to take on your camping adventures:
SD Pale Ale .394, Alesmith Brewing Co.: An awesome Pale Ale that Tony Gwynn described as “light with a kick”
Swami’s IPA, Pizza Port Brewing Co.: A classic West Coast IPA. This is one of Pizza Port’s original IPA’s. Luckily for us, Pizza Port has many cans to choose to take with us on the go.
Hell or High Watermelon, 21st Amendment Brewery: This light wheat beer with a watermelon punch. Available during prime camping months April- September, this is a great beer to enjoy lakeside or after a long hike.
Lomaland, Modern Times Beer: This is the perfect saison to compliment the countryside. It has an essence which aromatic and light.
Silipint
If you’re sharing a bomber with a fellow camper or planning on making a Michelada. Solo cups may scream “party” but these cups are eco-friendly, reusable and won’t break! You can get them HERE.
Let the crack of the can reverberate throughout the canyons, beaches, forest, and plains. Whether you’re hanging out by the blazing fire and roasting marshmallows. Reaching the top of a mountain. Swaying from side to side in your hammock. Grubbing on a juicy cast iron burger. Gazing at the bright starry night. All of these moments deserve to accompanied by a cold beer in hand. Camping is also one of the few occasions where it is perfectly fine to crack open a beer before brushing your teeth. Cheers & happy camping!
