August Beer Events Roundup – San Diego

We’re halfway through August and summer is flying by! Have you imbibed in all the summer beers your heart desires? The answer should always be “No” because there’s always room for more beer. We don’t want the rest of the month to pass you by without attending a beer event, after all, it’s summer. Hoplight Social compiled a list of beer events, festivals, anniversaries, and releases for the second half of August. 

Ultimate Tap Takeover – Stone Brewing Tap Room J Street – Friday, August 16 

As part of Stone’s 23rd Anniversary Celebration, Stone Brewing Tap Room – J Street is hosting a kick-off event. You can expect new creations, limited vintage releases, live music and a visit from a few special guests. One special guest is none other than Greg Koch Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Stone Brewing. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to hear from one of craft beer’s originators. We recommend arriving early as there’s bound to be a crowd. Enjoy rare beers and hang out with the man who started it all! Also, did we mention that it’s free?

Best of San Diego Party – San Diego Magazine – Friday, August 16 

The Best of San Diego Party not only embodies all that is San Diego but it’s a unique summer party! San Diego Magazine partnered with 3 breweries to create a unique beer that best represents their identity. Fall Brewing, Eppig Brewing, and Coronado Brewing were the 3 breweries chosen. If you haven’t tried these beers at their respective breweries yet you’ll get a chance at the Best of SD Party. On top of the local breweries in participation, local restaurants, wineries, distilleries, and businesses featured in San Diego Magazine will be at the party ready to highlight their best features. Guests can expect unlimited bites and sips from more than 100 vendors along with live bands and entertainment, interactive art installations, lounges, aerialist acrobats, fire performers, pop-up shops, dancing and more. This party with undoubtedly be one of the best summer celebrations.

Pool Party – 32 North Brewing Co. – Saturday, August 17 

What screams summer more than a pool party, particularly a 32 North pool party? 32 North will be on tap hosting a pool party at The Lafayette Hotel. Live music, great booze, unicorn floaties, giveaways and more. A perfect way to cool off from the summer heat is at the pool with a 32 North beer in hand.

Stone 23rd Anniversary Rare Beer Festival – Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Saturday, August 17

Part of Stone’s 3-day anniversary celebration includes the Rare Beer Festival. Head over to Stone’s beautiful Escondido location for a great party. This is going to be a big one folks! Tickets include endless tasters of select beers, endless bites from Stone’s amazing kitchen, live music, cigar lounge, and an exclusive taster glass to take home. All in all the Rare Beer Fest is one you won’t want to miss!

Stone 23rd Anniversary Grand Celebration – Stone Brewing Liberty Station – Sunday, August 18

Stone is topping off their August beer events with their anniversary celebration at Liberty Station. Not only will you drink some of Stone’s amazing beer but they also invited local breweries to the party! 50+ breweries will be pouring beers with Stone. $35 tickets will get you twenty 2oz pours, live music, cigar lounge, a commemorative taster glass, and more surprises! That sounds like an ideal Sunday to us.

Gaffes and Guffaws Comedy Show – Burning Beard Brewing – Thursday, August 22

There’s nothing wrong with starting your weekend early. Break up the monotony of your work week with a comedy show at Burning Beard. In addition to a comedy show, your $20 tickets include tacos and beer from local favorite SD Taco Tuesday.

4th Anniversary Weekend – Second Chance Beer Co. – Friday, August 23 – Sunday, August 25 

Second Chance is celebrating 4 years of fantastic beer, community partnerships, and awesome collaborations. In celebration, Second Chance teamed up with Alesmith Brewing Co. to bring you their anniversary beer, a double hazy IPA. Stop by their North Park or Carmel Mountain location on Friday, August 23rd to get your hands on their anniversary IPA. Second Chance will be celebrating their 4th Anniversary the whole weekend with limited released beers, and activities such as art, brunch, cornhole and more!

Jetty IPA Release Party – Pizza Port Brewing Co. – Saturday, August 24

Pizza Port knows that summer=surfing, especially in San Diego. Pizza Port created the perfect post-surf session thirst quencher. This traditional West Coast style IPA is bright in color and delivers a swell of hop flavors. Celebrate the release of Pizza Port’s new beer from 12:00-9:00 pm at their OB location. The event will include a beach cleanup, party in the parking lot, BBQ, bounce house for the kids, kite-making station, and variations of Jetty IPA.

Festival of Dankness – Modern Times Beer – Saturday, August 24

Calling all hop heads and IPA lovers alike, the 5th Annual Festival of Dankness is making its way to Waterfront Park! Not only is the beer fest hosted at one of our favorite locations but it’s also focused on one of our favorite beer flavors. Modern Times is bringing the dankness! Modern Times has specially vetted and curated the breweries pouring at the event. A number of brewers will be in attendance to speak on their creations and answer questions from devoted fans. Food trucks with vegan options, merch and water stations will make this an August beer event you won’t want to miss.

Barks & Brews Fest – Barks & Brews – Saturday, August 24

Barks & Brews is hosting a dog-friendly beer fest at Embarcadero! Proceeds will be donated to The Barking Lot Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to dog adoption and finding foster homes for dogs in need. Sometimes we here at Hoplight Social feel guilty leaving our dogs for a full day of beer tasting but not this time! Have your pup run around at designated unleashed areas and compete in pet-friendly contests. There will be relaxing lounges and activities for humans as well. Enjoy live music, food vendors, local boutiques, and of course amazing beer!

Ballast Point Brews Cruise – Flagship Cruises & Events – Saturday, August 31

Set sail on a sunset cruise in the San Diego Bay with Ballast Point. Their 4th Annual Ballast Point Brews Cruise features unlimited samples of over 20 different limited release and iconic Ballast craft beers, including special releases and limited production from the tasting rooms. Chefs will be grilling up Ballast Point beer-infused BBQ dishes. There will be two floors of entertainment including modern rock cover bands and DJ’s. Wave goodbye to the month of August on a boat!
