2018 SDBW Beer Releases
What excites us about San Diego Beer Week you ask? The beer, obviously! We love drinking all of our favorite brews but get particularly excited about all the new SDBW beer releases. Breweries all over town put their best foot forward and introduce the community to beers they’ve been working on specifically for this special week. Beers that have been aging for 9 months will finally breathe! Old classics are reappearing with a twist. As well as, collaboration beers that are ready to be introduced to the world. We’ve compiled a list of some of the great SDBW beer releases to be on the lookout for. Make sure to pace yourselves, San Diego!
Friday, November 2nd
Brut Tang IPA
Duck Foot Brewing Company and Amplified Aleworks: Duck Foot and Amplified are combining champagne and beer with a Tangerine Brut IPA. They added a ton of tangerines to give a tangy, citrus flavor profile as well as Australian Galaxy and American Amarillo hops to bring in the IPA hoppiness. Stop by either of Duck Foot’s locations in Miramar and East Village to try this tangy collab.
Service Pig IPA
Thorn Brewing Co.: This beer is a throwback to the classic West Coast IPA inspired by an old Temecula brewery’s IPA. This recipe was originally brewed in collaboration with Toronado SD for their 10th anniversary. “Service Pig” is a nod to Toronado’s inclusivity of all service animals, no matter what kind. You can pick up a six-pack at Thorn’s Barrio Logan location.
Kessel Run IPA
2Kids Brewing Co. and Savagewood Brewing Co.: 2Kids teamed up with the crew at Savagewood Brewing to offer a truly unique collab beer. They’ve used the same hops and malts to produce two radically different beers. 2Kids will release their Hazy version, a New England take on the IPA they’re calling Kessel Run, and Savagewood is debuting their West Coast version at the same time. Visit both tasting rooms and see which one you prefer!
Flower Sour (Ocean Beach) & Funky Tiki Sour (Kearny Mesa) Releases
Kilowatt Brewing: Celebrate the funky release of 4 varieties of Kilowatt’s S3 Super Sour Series. Enjoy rare music from the 60s, psychedelic lighting, and sip on new Flower Sour beer releases including S3 Elder Flower Sour, S3 Violet Sour, S3 Lavender Sour, and S3 Orchid Sour. This release is located at their Ocean Beach location.
There is also a Funky Tiki Sour Night at their Kearny Mesa location. This funky release has 4 varieties of their S3 Super Sour Series, straight from the tropics. They have all been mixed fermented with Brettanomyces, a wild yeast strain that produces funky, fruity notes. Funky Tiki Sour beer release includes Island of Dreams: Passion Fruit, Guava, Orange, Stone Idol: Apricot, Peach, Dark Cherry, Kon-Tiki: Guava, Mango, Ginger and Enchanted Garden: Pineapple, Tangerine, Passion Fruit, Mango, Banana.
Beatitude Can Release
Council Brewing Company: Their first Beatitude can release includes four Beatitude variants; Guava, Three Berry, Raspberry, and Cherry. You can build your own 4 pack and be sure to include your favorite variants.
Saturday, November 3rd
#Supportlocal IPA
Pariah Brewing Co.: #Supportlocal IPA will be a Hazy India Pale Ale with a throwback hop bill of Amarillo, Simcoe with a bit of Citra and Crystal, just for good measure.
Bourbon and Wine Barrel Aged Releases
Kilowatt Brewing: Kilowatt is hosting a special release of their newest beers, barrel aged in three different barrels. Releases include beers aged in Bourbon, Chardonnay, and Syrah barrels.
Monday, November 5th
Young Ginger Lemongrass IPA
Kilowatt Brewing: A hop forward IPA brewed with young ginger and lemongrass. Young Ginger also features spicy, lemon, citrus notes. Stop by at either Kilowatt location to try out this unique SDBW beer release.
Tuesday, November 6th
Death Before Dying Imperial Stout
North Park Beer Co.: This rich chocolatey stout will be available on tap and in bottles to-go. The weather is changing and we’re excited for stouts and porters alike.
Winter Ale
Circle 9 Brewing: Circle 9 is releasing their first ever winter ale. Stop by for a beer and take some time to chat with their brewer.
Buddha’s Hand Citron IPA
Kilowatt Brewing: Kilowatt always finds a way to incorporate unusual flavors into their beer and Buddha’s Hand is no exception. Buddha’s Hand is an unusually shaped citron fruit with lemon blossom aroma and sweet citrus tasting notes. Stop by to try this citrusy IPA.
IPA 2K
Rock Bottom La Jolla: This Ultra hoppy, super fresh IPA is the 2000th brew at Rock Bottom La Jolla. They are celebrating in honor of Veteran’s Day, by donating 25 cents from every pint sold to local charity Cammies & Canines.

32 North Brewing Co.: 32 North is releasing limited edition variations of their Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. It is also a keep the pint night, which is a win-win situation in our book.
Earl Grey Vanilla Bean IPA
Kilowatt Brewing: Kilowatt always seems to come up flavor profiles we tend to be excited about. This eclectic IPA is brewed with earl grey tea and vanilla bean and sounds like a perfect winter beer.
Thursday, November 8th
Barleywine and Pasteur Porter
White Labs: White Labs has been aging a barleywine with Edinburgh Scottish Ale Yeast in bourbon barrels for more than nine months. They will also be pouring Pasteur Porter with an American Ale Yeast Blend. During a special SDBW beer release, White Labs is offering a self-guided paring of these beers alongside two yeast-risen cookies specially created by Chef Chuy at the Good Seed Food Company.
Coconut Rum Oak IPA
Kilowatt Brewing: We know all about the bourbon and wine barrel craze, but rum is a new one! This IPA is conditioned on coconut flakes and rum barrel oak chips. Both of Kilowatt’s location will have this SDBW beer release available for your consumption.
Friday, November 9th
Hazy IPA
North Park Beer Co. & Highland Park Brewery: Highland Park Brewing will be down in San Diego from Los Angeles to celebrate their collaboration SDBW beer release. Stop by North Park Beer Co. to give HPB Brewer Bob Kunz a big San Diego welcome!
Lime IPA
Eppig Brewing & Modern Times Beer: A Citrus forward IPA dry-hopped with Motueka and finished with lime zest. Eppig’s release event on Friday will be held at their North Park Brewery. The Lime IPA is available at both locations starting Saturday, November 10th.
Saturday, November 10th
Apricot Wit
Kilowatt Brewing & Rough Draft Brewing Co.: It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new wit release. This collaboration is an American style wit and is brewed with malted wheat and apricots.
Goodbye Pluto & Murshake with Mangos
Pure Project: Goodbye Pluto is a Murky IPA w/ Galaxy & Comet Hops. A different variation of Murshake, this Triple IPA includes mangos and vanilla. As always, Pure Project recommends arriving early to ensure you get cans. Don’t forget to bring your reusable bags, boxes, or coolers.
Sunday, November 11th
Cleveland Style Christmas Ale
Kilowatt Brewing: Every year in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio near the shores of the Great Lake’s Erie, there is an unwritten friendly competition amongst local craft brewers for the best brewed Christmas Ale in The Land. Kilowatt is following suit and releasing a beer to commemorate the long-standing tradition. Holiday flavors such as Honey, Ginger, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon are present in Kilowatt’s Cleveland Style Christmas Ale.
