2018 SDBW Beer Events

We love San Diego Beer Week! There is an official kick-off party aka Guild Fest, multiple beer releases, and of course Beer Events. There are over 250+ events going on during SDBW this year. Though it can be a difficult task choosing which events to attend, here are some we think you should consider!

Friday, November 2nd

SDBW Gets Sour!

The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole will be featuring 8+ sour beers from different breweries for beer week!

Here is a list of the breweries that will be featured: Resident – Saison Prestige Peach, Funkwerks – Raspberry Provincial, Societe – The Highwayman, Beachwood – The Other Guava, Belching Beaver – Party Goblin, Thorn Street – Simply Sour Plum, The Lost Abbey – Red Poppy, Pfriem – Apricot Lambic, Modern Times – Galactic Filaments w/ Hibiscus & Lemon, New Braunfels – Brown Sugar and Pecans and more!

SDBW HOT CASK NIGHT

Pure Project along with Newtopia Cyder will have a special “Hot” Cask to kick off SD Beer Week! This BBA Apple Barley Wine will be on cask and served hot.

“END OF THYME” SAISON COLLABORATION BEER RELEASE PARTY

In collaboration with their friends at Taproom Beer Co. & My Yard Live, Black Plague Brewing is releasing the “End of Thyme” Saison brewed with Orange & Lemon peel, topped off with Basil and Thyme on Friday, Nov 2nd in the Black Plague taproom. November 2nd marks “All Souls Day” a historic day to remember the souls of all good who have passed on. They will have a LIVE performance from the dynamic duo “Lawrence & Clare” @ 8 pm.

SDBW BLVD ALE TRAIL

SDBW Kick-off Toast

Experience the kick-off toast to SDBW at 7:30 PM SHARP. Multiple breweries will be participating including Benchmark Brewing Co., White Labs, Mother Earth Brewing Co., Second Chance Beer Co., Green Flash Brewing Co., and Savagewood Brewing.

Saturday, November 3rd

Guild Fest 

Every year we are even more impressed with the number of quality breweries in attendance at Guild Fest. The San Diego Brewers Guild along with Lyft are hosting the Guild Fest at Embarcadero Marina Park South on Saturday, November, 3rd. There are a number of new additions to SDBW and Guild Fest this year but the heart of the festival will always remain the same, a celebration of independent craft breweries. Today is the last day to purchase tickets to the most anticipated SDBW event so be sure to get your tickets! Buy tickets using the SD BEER App and save $10 on general admission passes to Guild Fest. CRAFT BEER WITH ALEXUSJONES JAM BAND AT GOODBAR AFTER GUILD FEST

Guild Fest After Party at Goodbar – Experience multiple San Diego craft beers and three sets of the all original Alexusjones Jam Band. Beautiful Alex Short will sing her heart out as usual, and the rest of the band freewheels the frequencies. Think of Janis, mixed with P-funk, mixed with Phish. Get ready to dance, and it’s free.

Sunday, November 4th

SDBW – IPA DAY

Council Brewing Company is bringing back one of their most popular SDBW events on Saturday, Nov. 3rd. IPA Day features the release of their annual SDBW Triple IPA, Bad Advice and a special flight of five different IPA’s including Day Drinking IPA (Brut IPA), Bully Pulpit (American IPA), Weekend Brunch (Hazy IPA), Bad Advice (IIIPA), and a new Orange Vanilla Milkshake IPA. It’s a little West Coast, a little East Coast, a throwback, and something new to celebrate San Diego’s favorite style of beer, the India Pale Ale. IPA Day flight and Bad Advice will be available at both locations (Kearny Mesa & Santee).

#SDBEER ALLSTARS FLIGHT CONTEST: ROUND 2

Longship Brewery is hosting their all-out beer brawl cage match craft beer competition. Four different San Diego-based craft beer Allstars will go toe to toe to see who’s collaboration concoction reigns supreme! Each contestant is brewing a beer of their own creation at Longship Brewery. All four unique beers will be released on November 4th during SD Beer Week 2018. Everyone is invited to judge the beers and vote on a winner! This year’s competitors include:

  4. What’s On Draft

BEER PAIRING WITH NOMAD DONUTS

Join Kilowatt Brewing for a special San Diego Beer Week pairing with Nomad Donuts on Sunday, November 4th from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m at their Kearny Mesa location.

The pastry chefs at Nomad Donuts never hold back in their creative and inspiring pairings, baking and pairing each donut with one of their unique, small-batch beers, including some of their Beer Week Special Releases.

Monday, November 5th

SDBW – WILD & SOUR CELEBRATION

Council Brewing Co. has a robust barrel program including over 100 oak barrels and 3 oak foeders, it’s no secret they love wild, sour, and oak aged beers. Therefore, it’s only fitting that they are highlight these beers in a special event during SDBW! You’re invited to join them on Monday, Nov. 5th for their Wild & Sour Celebration featuring a flight of some of their favorite Magic Factory creations over the last few years. The ”Oak Aged Beer Flight” available at their Kearny Mesa location includes (5) 4oz tasters: Staircase of Everlasting Plums, Golden Sour Ale Aged in Sauvignon Blanc Barrels with Plums | 6.0% ABV, Vienne 2017, Biere De Mars Aged with Peaches & Persimmons | 9.4% ABV, 2nd Anniversary Flanders Red, Flanders Style Red Ale Aged 2 Years in Red Wine Barrels | 5.6% ABV, Chalcedon 2016, Imperial Sour Brown Ale with Dominican Cocoa Nibs | 10.7% ABV, and Devil’s Share Whiskey Barrel Aged Pirate’s Breakfast 2018, Imperial Oatmeal Stout | 8.7% ABV.

BREW’S CHEWS AND VIEWS AT TOM HAM’S LIGHTHOUSE

Alpine Beer Co. presents the 5th Annual Brews, Views, and Chews at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. This is the ultimate bayside beer pairing event kicking off San Diego Beer Week.

This event was created to showcase their passion for San Diego beer and local fresh food pairings. Enjoy live music, bayside views and over NINE different food/beer pairings crafted by Top Chefs and most loved breweries here in San Diego.

Guests will receive a 5oz. tasting glass at check-in, along with a pairing “guide” that will take you on a tour through the pairings.

Alpine beers featured are Babyface and Bruet IPA.

Tuesday, November 6th

BEER + GRILLED CHEESE PAIRING

Duck Foot Brewing Co.’s Grilled Cheese Pairing with Bread & Cheese Catering is BACK for SDBW 2018!!! Last year during SD Beer Week Duck Foot debuted their first Beer + Grilled Cheese Pairing and they have been having cheesy dreams ever since. This SDBW 2018 event has limited tickets, last year’s pairing sold out so don’t wait on this one! This will be located at their Miramar location.

VENISSIMO CHEESE & BEER PAIRING

Join Thorn Brewing Co. and Venissimo Cheese as they host this delicious pairing. Rob Graff, cheese expert from Venissimo, and Eric O’Connor, Thorn’s brewmaster, will be taking guests through this delectable journey with five kinds of gourmet cheese paired with five of our beers. Learn about the different styles of cheese, why the specific beers and cheeses pair well together as well as craft beer and the brewing process. It’s the perfect way to spend a Tuesday night! $35 for five cheese courses and five 8-oz beers.

Wednesday, November 7th

10TH ANNUAL SDBW FLING

Join the San Diego Brewers Guild for the 10th annual San Diego Beer Week Disc Golf Tournament! Your ticket to The Fling includes:

  • Breakfast Burritos! Provided courtesy of BSG CraftBrewing and Small Bar.
  • Exclusive Custom 10th Annual Fling Disc you can use until you lose it! (Disc guaranteed until hole 2. Then it’s on you)

Thursday, November 8th

SDBW BEER AND ICE CREAM PAIRING

In true Longship Brewery fashion, they’re going outside the box for their special San Diego Beer Week pairing event and they’re partnering their delicious beers with some one-of-a-kind creations from Chef Chuy from The Good Seed Food Company!

This is an open event and your ticket will get you three beer tasters paired with three ice cream scoops. Here’s a look at the pairings:

  1. Whiskey Oil + Orange Salt paired with the Wildlife Guardian Kölsch
  2. “Smooth” Road paired with Shieldwall IPA
  3. Bleu Cheese paired with Ragnabock Doppelbock

Friday, November 9th

ECLECTIC IPA FLIGHT NIGHT

Join Kilowatt Brewing at our Ocean Beach and Kearny Mesa Tasting Rooms as we celebrate San Diego Beer Week and enjoy a flight of all four of our eclectic IPAs including:

  • Young Ginger Lemongrass IPA
  • Buddha’s Hand Citron IPA
  • Earl Grey Vanilla Bean IPA
  • Coconut Rum Oak IPA

These specialty releases will be available at both of their Kearny Mesa and Ocean Beach Tasting Rooms while supplies last.

THE BATTLE OF THE GUILDS AT TORONADO

This is your chance to try hand-selected beers from San Diego/Los Angeles/San Francisco beer guilds and cast your vote to see who wins the golden keg! There will be 15 beers to try!

STONE DRK FESTIVAL

While Stone has long had a reputation for brewing hop-forward IPAs, they’ve always had a deep appreciation for the glorious dark side of beer. If you’ve attended their Oakquinox or Pour It Black events in the past, they’ve combined them both into one massive celebration of the finest stouts, porters and barrel-aged delights.

They’re putting together an incredible list of beers from Stone along with amazing guest beers from some of the finest craft breweries in the world. They received rave reviews from the attendees of the first DRK in 2017, and they can’t wait to step it up and make it an even more fantastic experience for the second edition.

YOUR $65 TICKET INCLUDES: Fifteen 3oz tasters, a commemorative glass to take home and amazing dark and rare beers to choose from!

Saturday, November 10th

BEER WEEK CHOCOLATE PAIRING

Join Kilowatt Brewing on Saturday, November 10th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a special San Diego Beer Week chocolate pairing with Andrea’s Truffles!

Each delicious truffle will be paired with one of our unique, small-batch beers, including some of our special Beer Week Limited Releases.

Tickets are $20 and get you a 4 x 4 pairing (four truffles and four 4 oz tasters). Ticket price includes gratuity.

COLLABAPALOOZA – AN INDIE BEER COLLABORATION CELEBRATION

Karl Strauss Brewing Co. presents Collabapalooza. They Rally 30+ independent, San Diego-based breweries to help them throw a killer party during our favorite week of the year complete with tons of good food, excellent vibes, and altogether fabulous people. This year, they will be taking over the parking lot behind the North Park Observatory.

In addition to unlimited pours of these one-off collaborations and rare releases they’ll have food from local vendors available for purchase, live screen printed t-shirts, and a ton more to be announced in the coming weeks. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit both the San Diego Brewers Guild and the North Park Main Street Association.

VIP ADMISSION includes early access to the festival & first crack at the most super special beers starting at 1:00p, a commemorative Collabapalooza taster glass & unlimited 2oz pours and a Collabapalooza T-Shirt. GENERAL ADMISSION includes access to the festival starting at 2:00p and a commemorative Collabapalooza taster glass & unlimited 2oz pours.

Sunday, November 11th

BEER GARDEN

The official closing event for San Diego Beer Week. There is no better setting for the closing event of San Diego Beer Week than the Arroyo Terrace of the Lodge at Torrey Pines. The Beer Garden brings together the best of San Diego’s breweries and local chefs to celebrate the craft beer movement. With 28 breweries and 14 chefs, the Beer Garden is truly a unique and delicious food and beer pairing event. Each admission includes unlimited tastes of beer and food. The event benefits the Chef Celebration Foundation and the San Diego Brewers Guild.
