2017 Quintessential Festival Exceeds Expectations!

The Quintessential Craft Beer & Wine Festival returned for its 4th year on Saturday, April 22nd. We had the opportunity to attend this family and pet friendly event, and we have to say; it definitely exceeded our expectations! The La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club hosted the 2017 Quintessential Festival at Nobel Athletic Fields & Recreation Center. The aspect we loved the most about this festival was the more sophisticated crowd. You didn’t wait more than 5 minutes in a line, and you had the time to chat with the vendors about their craft. People who attended the event got to experience over 30 local breweries, distilleries, and wineries as well as other local vendors. 100% of the proceeds from the event will benefit more than 45 local and worldwide charity partners of the rotary club. Here is a highlight of some of our favorites from the event:

Favorite Craft Beers & Ciders

Garage Brewing Co | d-Unkle Peanut, A Roasty Peanut Dunkle Weizen was our favorite of the 11 different beers they brought for us to try! If you haven’t heard of Garage Brewing Company, you will soon. They are located in Temecula, CA and are continuing to expand their presence. They have some really solid beers with some interesting flavor combinations!

Abnormal Beer Company | Crushability Hazy Pale Ale was the most refreshing beer we had during the event! Abnormal Beer Company is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA and has become known for the high quality of the beers they produce. If you haven’t tried them yet, you will want to add them to your list of places to try.

Twisted Horn Mead | Blushing Maiden Cranberry Mead was some of the best mead we’ve ever had. This mead was made with tart cranberries and has a slight honey finish! It was extremely refreshing and something we would want to drink again and again. Twisted Horn Mead is located in Vista, CA.

Favorite Craft Spirits

Malahat Spirits Co. | Ginger Rum is mind blowingly delicious! Their entire spirit line is some of the highest quality spirits we’ve ever had. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything they produce. If you haven’t visited their tasting room in Miramar, CA yet, you are definitely missing out on an amazing experience! When you visit, be sure to go left through their secret entrance!

Blinking Owl Distillery | The Swedish Fish Cocktail was just as amazing as the name sounds! They took their Blinking Owl Aquavit and mixed it with some fresh ingredients then toped it off with a Swedish Fish candy! This distillery is located in Santa Ana, CA and is now on the top of our list of places we need to visit! All of their spirits were extremely good, and we absolutely loved their branding!

Favorite Food Vendors

Belinda’s Familia Mexican Restaurant | Nothing pairs with beer quite like mexican food! We really enjoyed the three taco plate. Be warned that their Chile Verde is absolutely delicious, but does pack some heat so be sure to have plenty of beer to wash it down. Lucky for us, we were at a beer festival!

Sonic Tonic Drink Co | Cascara Hibiscus Tonic was extremely light, refreshing, and packed with flavor! We haven’t had much tonic, but if this is any indication of what it is like…man we have been missing out!
